Important Information If You Have Lost Your Pet!

If your pet goes missing, you need to act quickly!!!!!

1. Prepare flyers in English and Japanese with the following information:

- Picture of the animal

- Name

- Breed

- Gender

- Description of animal and if they are wearing a collar

- When they went missing

- Where they were last seen

- Nature of the animal (friendly, scared, etc.)

- Your contact information

2. Give the flyers to city/town/village office, police station, Ozato, Karing Kennels, and the base vet clinic.

3. Post flyers at local convenience stores (Family Mart, Lawson's, Coco's), along with your local veterinarians.

4.Put up ads in the local classified (like Okinawa Yard Sales)

5. Check with the Okinawa Prefecture Animal Welfare & Control Center (Ozato) for your missing pet. Check out the following website:

*****This website has pictures of SOME of the dogs that have been brought to Ozato, but not the cats or puppies. It is advisable to go there in person every other day than to rely on the website as its often not current.

ALL DOGS TAKEN TO OZATO ONLY HAVE FIVE WORKING DAYS FOR THEIR OWNER TO CLAIM THEM. ALL CATS TAKEN TO OZATO ONLY HAVE 4 WORKING DAYS FOR THEIR OWNER TO CLAIM THEM. IF THEY ARE NOT CLAIMED, THEY ARE GASSED ON THE NEXT WORKING DAY. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.

If you see that your dog/cat is at Ozato, please let us know. You need to have a Japanese speaker go with you because they do not speak English at Ozato. You may be able to bumble through if you know a little Japanese. Take about 5000 Yen with you and some proof of ownership (like a picture of the dog/cat or micro-chip certificate) to spring your animal from jail.
